My mom passed away peacefully on Monday at 3am. My aunt was with her. She was never alone and always had familly members with her even though she was sleeping most of the time.
We're filled with sadness, but also a sence of relief knowing that she's lo longer suffering from dementia. The decline over the last 6 months has been hard. Although we managed to keep her at home until last three weeks of her life and she was always surrounded by loved ones at home, the decline of her memory and the inability to do daily life activities really affected her quality of life.
It's been a 20 month journey since I moved back to my mom's to care for her with the help of brothers, sisters and my aunt. Now over the next while, I'll be working on adjusting to a new (old) routine of life. We still have the house and belongings to deal with, so that will take some time.
