Intermission question for the Canadians...

Trudeau resigning is 'fairly' normal for your political process? It's **nothing** like Nixon resigning, right?

Fairly. Doesn’t happen often. No Nixon involved.

Usually happens when a Prime Minister looks at the polls and realizes he (or she) is going to lose.

And why not just wait until that point? Minimize lame duck period/not belabor the issue?

edit: The point of actually getting voted out that is.

Gives his party a chance to rebuild before election.

Merci, for the crash course in 1.03% of the Canadian political process. smile

Maybe, he was looking forward to the next 4 years and just said, “ nah, I don’t need this”.

I like his optimism that it's only 4 years!

This. Is what I’ve been saying. and He’s going to try it too.

Some people here think we only need to hold out 2 years until the midterms. I suppress the urge to hit them upside the head.

Lol.

And he steps down before getting voted out in the hopes his party can salvage some public favor?
