I learned many moons ago while working retail that store brands are usually placed to the right of name brands because most people are right handed and reach/look to the right.
I've assumed that's why I can't read the emoticon list to save my life.
I am indeed. Interesting theory - I think in this case it just goes against accepted screen/graphic design standards.
It's partly in the spacing, I think. The emoticons are too far away from the text that generates them, and too close to the next column.
