To me it's pretty obvious we are all getting fed up with the defense on this years team and really not contending for a Cup since 2007. I like Bryan Murray but Pan has a point he has made numerous bad decisions on coach's and has paid a lot of cap money to guys who don't contribute to a team not willing to spend to the cap.
The last 2 games were just awful by a team that is expecting to compete for a playoff spot and it's totally frustrating. AO is right about mid season trades and of the 3 teams I follow ALL 3 need and want defensemen Van, SJ and Ottawa. Ottawa has 2 studs on the way in White and Chabot but that's the future and Pan rightfully wants the now because he does put his money on the line and pays to watch this and I think I'm being kind, mediocre mess on D.

This comparison of GMs is fair and SHOULD BE DONE.
Murray has been in hockey for 40 years. He hasn't won anything. He is AT BEST a mediocre GM. Ottawa may be more challenging based in regards to how much funding you can do. That may or may not explain hiring of his last THREE head coaches who were first time NHL Head Coaches without other experience of which two ended in absolute flames & the current one is LUCKIER THAN HE IS GOOD
The Sens are 28th in shots for per game, 30th in shots against per game & the goal scoring is trending downwards as shooting percentage was high early.
Between Cowen & Greening, the Sens paid $5.5M in salary to not play tonight. This, in my opinion, is unacceptable. The healthy scratches in the playoffs way even more expensive. You can't win them all, but you would think that the team would know not to extend big money to guys who just got points with Spezza. He's made guys like Eaves, Bochenski & Greening lots of money that they didn't really deserve.
Saying that trades aren't done also doesn't pan out. This summer, we got an additional 1st round pick. Last year, we traded away Spezza for a player, pick and prospect. The year before that, We traded for Ryan for a player, pick & prospect. Why can't we do that again now for a top 4 defenceman from a bottom dwelling team? Would that impact the roster tragically? These trades happen every year, it's just the parity in the league that is slowing things down. Not the cap.
Everyone can criticize the team, but you can do so knowing that there's more to the story that we don't know. That doesn't mean that what the GM is doing or who the coach puts out is always the right move, but if you want to continue to be a Yes Man, go ahead. And sorry for me wanting to see the team that I support want to improve while knowing that there are 29 other teams that are doing the same thing.
I see a common trend here: all occurred in the off-season. Midseason trades are not going to happen outside of the trade deadline because of the league parity and too many teams are tight on the cap. Add in the simple fact that it's a seller's market now with only about 8 teams being out of it, limiting the available players to trade for of which most are utter crap.
