Does anyone else feel like Cathy has built her own data centre, become sentient, and is going to kill us all by the end of the decade?
Are you saying Cathy wasn't sentient *before* now? If anything, the menopause is making me LESS sentient!
I just asked Claude what Homer asked, I thought it was hilarious that he picked "4-2 Sens" **on his ****ing own**. (Also that he thought Tkachuk was still a solid goal scoring bet because his training is only through May '26.)
Does Claude do game score predictions? Might be fun for poop and giggles.
I swear I gave him nothing other than "message board wants to know if you can make score predictions"
Sure, with the caveat that NHL single-game outcomes are close to a coin flip with a puck on it. Home teams win around 54% of the time, and the best team in the league beats the worst maybe 70% on a given night. Anything claiming better than that is selling something.
For a message board, the honest version is probabilistic rather than "4-2 Sens." Something like "Sens ~42% to win, expected total around 6.1 goals" is defensible; a specific scoreline is entertainment. If you want the latter anyway, the standard approach is a Poisson model: estimate each team's expected goals for the matchup, then draw from Poisson distributions and report the modal score. It'll say 3-2 a lot, because 3-2 is genuinely the most common NHL result.
If you want to actually build it, I can write you something — Python or VBA, your call. Inputs would be team goals-for and goals-against rates plus home-ice adjustment, which you can pull from Natural Stat Trick or MoneyPuck. The better version uses expected goals rather than actual goals, since xG stabilizes over far fewer games than shooting percentage does.
What I can't do is give you meaningful predictions for the 2026-27 season off the top of my head — my knowledge runs to May 2026, which is before this season's roster moves settled. If you want predictions grounded in current rosters and results, I'd need to search.
What's the board actually asking for — a one-off game pick, or something that runs weekly alongside the schedule push?
So...I'm kinda thinking he gets his own picks for the season and hilarity ensues.
Should adjust TZ as necessary, all 84 games + 5 preseason. Game Notes and Game Centre links in notes, broadcast info in location field for those games that have broadcast info already available.
I have the NHL API locked down now so I can do any permutation of teams if anybody wants something else. Also have the "specialty" games (Stadium, Global (non-Sens), WC, HC) available to output to a separate calendar.
Claude (the less fun one) says I can set this to a subscribable calendar instead of static, I have a script on my side that's going to update via the API weekly, so broadcast info and reschedules will update. If there's interest in a subscribable calendar, let me know and I'll edjumacate myself.

Apparently it's to have that game in Prime Tiime in Germany. Probably a primer game for the Sens-Blackhawks games in Germany on Dec 18 and 20 as part of the Global Series games.
Ah, that makes more sense. I suppose it's better than having less than 24 hours between the Saturday Dec 12th game and a Sunday afternoon game.

I noticed this trying to select my game pack via work. Monday 2PM December 14th home game against Buffalo. It's not a stat holiday in Ontario or the US as far as I know, and school is still in effect. Who is taking a vacation day to go watch this game?
